Every Barnet food hygiene rating published since 12 September is a five, from the Black Horse in Wood Street to Odos on the High Street. Two September inspections scored a two: SOYO in Golders Green and Woodhouse Tandoori.
Thirty-four Barnet food businesses have had a five, the top hygiene rating, published since 12 September. No lower rating has appeared on the register in that time.
That is not because every kitchen passed. A business rated below five has 21 days to appeal before the Food Standards Agency publishes the score, so September’s weaker inspections are still working through. The most recent ones to appear are two ratings of 2, dated 1 and 9 September.
All figures below come from the FSA ratings register for Barnet, checked on 10 October. Our August roundup covered the borough-wide picture, including the two zeros.

The lower ratings now on the register
Two inspections dated in September have been published with a rating of 2, which the FSA defines as “improvement necessary”:
- SOYO Golders Green, 94 Golders Green Road, inspected 1 September
- Woodhouse Tandoori, 219 Woodhouse Road, North Finchley, inspected 9 September
Five more twos and three ones from the second half of August have also appeared since our last roundup:
| Business | Address | Rating | Inspected |
|---|---|---|---|
| Table Du Marche | 111 High Road, East Finchley | 1 | 17 August |
| Tahdig Restaurant | 42 Watling Avenue, Burnt Oak | 1 | 17 August |
| Shiraz Cafe | Totteridge and Whetstone station | 1 | 25 August |

| Taboon | Russell Parade, Golders Green Road | 2 | 19 August |

| 5 Sterne | Mobile caterer, Cricklewood Lane | 2 | 21 August |
| Johns Pizza | 93 Colney Hatch Lane | 2 | 24 August |
Each rating is the inspector’s view on the day. A business can appeal, ask for a re-inspection once it has made improvements, or publish a “right to reply” on the FSA page, and several of these may already have done so. The register entry, not this article, is the current position.
The borough picture

- 1,464 are rated 5
- 563 are rated 4
- 215 are rated 3
- 87 are rated 2
- 42 are rated 1
- 2 are rated 0
- 343 are awaiting their first inspection, and 119 are exempt from a rating
Among premises with a numeric score, 61.7% hold a five. That is in line with the 61.0% we found at the start of September.
What it means for you
- Checking a venue: search the FSA register before you book. A rating of 3 means “generally satisfactory”; 2 means “improvement necessary”; 1 means “major improvement necessary”.
- A 5 is not forever: a rating stands until the next inspection, which can be years away for a low-risk business. Our September roundup found 107 Barnet ratings dating from 2021 or earlier.
- Running a food business: display of the sticker is voluntary in England. If your rating is wrong or out of date, Barnet Council’s food safety team handles appeals and re-inspection requests.
Our business directory lists local restaurants and takeaways. We publish a hygiene roundup roughly every fortnight.
