Between Life and Death is at Chipping Barnet Library until 14 December, telling rescue stories from 15 countries. Staffed hours, the address and what it shows.
A touring exhibition about people who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust has opened at Chipping Barnet Library. Between Life and Death: Stories of Rescue during the Holocaust runs from 2 November to 14 December.
The library is at 3 Stapylton Road, EN5 4QT. The show is presented in partnership with Barnet Council and Barnet Libraries.
What it shows
The exhibition tells rescue stories from 15 European countries, including the United Kingdom, Poland, France and Ukraine. Its organisers say it gives a voice to both rescuers and survivors. Each story is set against the wartime conditions in that country.
A separate panel covers diplomats who used their posts to help people in danger.
The exhibition was prepared by three bodies:
- the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity
- the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw
- the Silent Heroes Memorial Center in Berlin
It was first shown at the European Commission in Brussels in January 2018, for International Holocaust Remembrance Day. It has since travelled to more than 20 cities across Europe, as well as Japan and the United States.
Barnet is one stop on a UK tour that opened in Southend-on-Sea in January.
