A man arrested in Spain is charged with murder and three firearms counts over the fatal Dale Grove shooting. He is remanded until a trial next June.

A man has been charged with murder over the shooting of a 19-year-old woman in Finchley in June. The Metropolitan Police announced the charge on Monday afternoon, three months after the killing and two weeks after an arrest in Spain.

The force named the man as Jamie Duncan, 21, of Highgrove Close, New Southgate. He is charged with murder and three counts of possession of a firearm.

Duncan appeared at the Old Bailey on Tuesday 1 September and was remanded into custody. A trial is scheduled to begin at the same court on Monday 7 June 2027 (the Met’s statement).

  • The woman died at an address in Dale Grove, N12, on Monday 8 June
  • Duncan was arrested in Spain on Sunday 23 August
  • He was charged on the same day, 23 August, with murder and three counts of possession of a firearm
  • He appeared at the Old Bailey on Tuesday 1 September and was remanded into custody
  • The trial is listed for Monday 7 June 2027, also at the Old Bailey

The force has not named the woman who died in any of its statements about the case, and neither will we.

How the case reached this point

Police were called to Dale Grove shortly after midnight on Monday 8 June. The call came from London Ambulance Service paramedics, who reported gunshots at a house on the street at around 00:15hrs. A 19-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of the emergency services.

Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo took charge of the investigation. The Met said the woman’s next of kin had been informed and were being supported by specialist officers, and that formal identification and a post-mortem examination would follow (the 8 June statement).

The following afternoon the force went public with a name. In a statement issued on 9 June, detectives said they wanted to trace Jamie Duncan, then described as 21 and from Barnet, who they said had fled Dale Grove at around midnight. The public were told not to approach him and to dial 999 if they saw him.

DCI Bhangoo said at the time: “My team are working around the clock to locate Jamie Duncan, and piece together the incident that resulted in the death of a much-loved young woman, daughter and sister” (the 9 June appeal).

Eleven weeks passed between that appeal and the arrest in Spain.

What it means for you

The case is now active in the legal sense. That places real limits on what anyone, including this newspaper, can publish about it. Nothing may be reported that creates a substantial risk of serious prejudice to the trial. In practice that means no speculation about what happened in Dale Grove, no material about the defendant beyond what the police and the courts put on the record, and nothing that reads as an assumption of guilt.

Jamie Duncan has been charged. He has not been tried, and he is entitled to the presumption of innocence until a jury says otherwise. That jury is not due to be sworn until June 2027, so this case will be a long time in the background.
