Three Barnet food businesses were rated 1 and ten rated 2 in late September inspections. Hendon Rugby Club climbed from zero to three. All 83 new ratings, by score.

Three Barnet food businesses were rated 1 out of 5 for hygiene after inspections in the second half of September. Ten more were rated 2. Those scores have now appeared on the Food Standards Agency register, after the three-week window businesses get to appeal a rating below five.

There is better news at the other end. Hendon Rugby Football Club, one of only two zero-rated premises in the borough in our August check, was re-inspected on 26 September and is now rated 3. That leaves one zero in Barnet: Coffee Mate / Baba Wali on West Hendon Broadway, rated on 27 May.

All figures come from the FSA ratings register for Barnet, read in full on 1 November. They cover 83 ratings from inspections between 12 September and 30 October that were not in our 10 October roundup.

Bar chart of 83 Barnet food hygiene ratings from inspections between 12 September and 30 October 2026: 33 rated 5, 22 rated 4, 15 rated 3, 10 rated 2 and 3 rated 1

The 83 new ratings break down as:

  • 33 rated 5, very good
  • 22 rated 4, good
  • 15 rated 3, generally satisfactory
  • 10 rated 2, improvement necessary
  • 3 rated 1, major improvement necessary

The October inspections are almost all fives so far. That is the same pattern we saw last month: a five is published straight away, while a lower score waits out its appeal period, so October’s weaker results will mostly show up in December’s roundup.

Rated 4: good

What it means for you

  • Check before you book or order. Every name above links to its own FSA record, with the date of inspection. The rating is a snapshot of that day.
  • A low rating is not a closure. A 1 or 2 means the council’s inspector found things that must improve. A business that thinks its rating is wrong can appeal within 21 days, and any business can publish a right of reply on its FSA page.
  • Businesses can ask for a re-score. Once the work is done, a business can request a re-inspection. Hendon Rugby Football Club’s new rating came from its 26 September visit.
  • The scores work backwards. On each FSA page, the three component scores (hygiene, structure and management) count up as things get worse, so a lower number is better.

This page reports the register as it stood on 1 November. Ratings can change after an appeal or a re-inspection, so the FSA page is always the current record. Our next roundup will follow in early December. For the borough-wide picture, including premises that have never been inspected, see Barnet food hygiene ratings.
