All 57 applications Barnet validated in the week beginning 21 September: QE's sports hall, a Plantagenet Road food hall, seven studios on Friern Barnet Road, plus the Post Office and Grahame Park bids still open.

Barnet Council validated 57 planning applications in the week beginning 21 September. (Barnet Council, weekly list of validated applications, Public Access) Eighteen are tree works, nine are house extensions and eight are certificates confirming a loft or garage conversion is lawful. Six are worth a closer look, and two big schemes validated the week before are now open for comment.

The ones to know about

  • A four-storey sports hall at Queen Elizabeth’s School. The Queens Road grammar wants to demolish its Annex and build a Sport England four-court hall with community use, ten classrooms, six Eton Fives courts and cricket nets. We have reported the application in full. Comments run to 5 November. (26/3400/FUL)
  • A food hall of four units on Plantagenet Road. At 8 Plantagenet Road, in Barnet Vale ward, the ground-floor shop would be split into four food and drink units with a kitchen extraction flue and new shopfronts. Above, a hip-to-gable roof extension and side and rear extensions would turn the existing flat into three. A front hardstanding would give customer parking. (26/3362/FUL)
  • Seven studio flats at 79 Friern Barnet Road. A certificate is sought to confirm the building’s use as seven self-contained studios is lawful, which usually means the owner argues the use has run long enough to be immune from enforcement. (26/3436/191)
  • A new house at 129 Kenilworth Road, Edgware. A detached home would be built beside the existing house after the garage is demolished. (26/3428/FUL)
  • Barnet Elizabethans RFC’s clubhouse. The Byng Road club has applied to vary the approved plans for its clubhouse redevelopment, permitted in June 2024. (26/3399/S73)
  • A six-bed HMO on Cricklewood Lane. At number 45, a family house would become a six-person house in multiple occupation with a rear extension and a raised roof. (26/3469/FUL) A separate certificate is sought for a four-bed HMO at 39 Ravenshurst Avenue, Hendon. (26/3233/191)

Our planning applications page explains the application types and how decisions are made, and our parking page covers the permit rules that often follow a conversion.
