We checked 18 Barnet shops, markets and Christmas fairs, from Elements by Nature to the Frost Fair, for addresses and opening hours. Updated November 2026.

Barnet borough has 18 places for Christmas shopping in 2026, 14 shops and markets plus 4 Christmas fairs, and this guide lists them with addresses, opening hours and what each sells. Most people will start at The Spires and Barnet Market in High Barnet, Brent Cross for the big names, or the Frost Fair for handmade gifts. Every entry was checked on 5 November 2026.

We have not shopped at these for this guide, and nothing here is a review. The descriptions come from what each business says about itself, and we say so where a fact comes from somewhere else. The hours are the usual ones published. Almost none of these shops had posted Christmas hours when we checked, so ring before a late trip in December.

We found few independent gift shops with a record we could check, and no independent new-book shop, so this list also takes in a market, delis, a butcher, a bakery and some chains. Waterstones and Brent Cross are here because they are where many people in the borough will end up buying books and big-name gifts.

High Barnet: The Spires and the market

1. Barnet Market

Barnet Market received its Royal Charter in 1199, according to Barnet Museum, and now trades every Wednesday and Saturday. The Spires’ market page is the fullest list of its stalls. For a Christmas table it names Tua Italy Imports for olives and cheese (Saturdays only), Mollica Bakery for sourdough and focaccia, Lenny’s Meats for beef, lamb, pork and seasonal game, and the Bone family, greengrocers on the market since 1959. Antony the Plant sells flowers and plants, and No 2 Pound Street, a cheese and wine shop based in Wendover, is also listed.

Red Clothing is a women’s boutique in The Spires. The centre’s listing describes clothes in Italian linen, cotton and other soft fabrics, in a wide range of sizes, alongside jewellery, leather and fabric bags, purses and rucksacks. We did not find a website of its own, so that listing is our only source for the shop and its hours.

We could not read its own website, so ask in the shop what its hampers cost and when Christmas orders close.

Its Christmas page lists free-range bronze turkey, goose, duck, home-made sausages and stuffings, and salt beef cured in store, which it asks you to order at least 10 days ahead.

That page carries holiday hours but no year, so ring to confirm 2026 dates and order deadlines. Local listings put the shop on East End Road; we could not find a street number on its site.

Names you may be looking for

We left out four places you may know. The Instagram account of The Present, the High Barnet gift shop, says its owner has retired and closed the doors. Time Out reported that Black Gull Books in East Finchley has gone. Wrap a Wish in Finchley still has a notice on its site saying it is temporarily closed for renovations, with no year on it, so we could not tell whether it has reopened. We could not find a recent record for Alan’s Records on the High Road in East Finchley, and we could not find a site of its own to check. If either of those last two is trading, tell us and we will add it.

East Finchley’s Christmas Courtyard Market ran at the Engine Rooms on 23 November last year. We found no 2026 date when we checked.

How we chose

We started with shops and fairs named on The Spires’ own directory, in local listings and by the Barnet Society, then opened each one’s site or listing to check it was trading and to read its hours. We chose independents first and included chains only where the borough relies on them. Run a place that should be here, or spot something that has changed? Email newsdesk@barnetlive.co.uk. Taken a good photograph of any of these places? Email it to newsdesk@barnetlive.co.uk and we will add it with your name as the credit.
