Goals from Reeves, Lakin and Knowles put the Bees top on goal difference after two games. Cheltenham visit The Hive on Saturday 29 August, 12.30 kick-off.

Barnet FC sit top of League Two after two games of the season. A 3-1 win at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday 22 August followed a 3-1 home win over Salford City a week earlier.

The club’s own match report gives the scorers at Shrewsbury:

  • Jake Reeves, 12 minutes
  • Charlie Lakin, 83 minutes
  • Tom Knowles, 89 minutes

Knowles came on as a 60th-minute substitute along with Kenlock and Maskell. Both sides used a concussion substitution, so six changes were allowed in all.

Academy player signs first professional deal

Aaron Liwala has signed his first professional contract with the club, announced on 21 August.

The club’s account of his route:

  • released by West Ham United at 16
  • joined Barnet’s Shadow Scholarship Programme at Canons High School in 2024
  • won a full-time scholarship after a 2024/25 season in which the Under-19s won the National League title and the Champions of Champions Cup
  • made his first-team debut against Arsenal in the EFL Trophy this month

Head of academy Dan McKimm called it “a huge milestone for the Academy since its rebirth at the start of last season”. Manager Dean Brennan said: “It shows what can happen when first-team staff work closely with the Academy.”

Liwala said: “Making my first-team debut for the Bees felt surreal. Playing in the main stadium in front of supporters was amazing.” The club did not state his age, position or the length of the contract.

Going the other way, defender Craig Farquhar has joined National League side Solihull Moors on an initial one-month loan, the club said on 22 August, subject to FA and league clearance.
