Noah's Ark Children's Hospice in Barnet beat its £1 million From That Moment target early. The appeal page showed £1,273,098 from 1,766 donors after it closed.

Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice has beaten its £1 million target for this year’s From That Moment appeal. It got there before the deadline.

The Barnet charity announced on Monday 12 October that it had “smashed” the goal early. Two more donors then topped up the match fund, so gifts kept being doubled until the appeal closed at 10pm that night.

After the close, the appeal’s donation page showed £1,273,098 raised from 1,766 donors. That is about £273,000 more than the target. The charity has not yet published a final figure.

How the money was raised

The appeal ran for six weeks, from 1 September. Every pound given was matched by a group of backers. The charity’s appeal page says the match pot was £500,000 at the start, which it said would let it reach £1 million.

The final push was a 36-hour finale from 10am on Sunday 11 October. When the original pot ran low, two further donors put money in. Philip Roethenbaugh, the hospice’s director of fundraising and communications, said:

“We’re hugely grateful to the two donors who have stepped forward with this additional match funding in the final hours of our campaign. We’re thrilled to reach our £1 million target.”

The charity has not named the two donors or said how much they added.

We reported the launch of the appeal in August. The six weeks included:

  • Step-tember, a challenge to cover 90 miles in September on foot, wheels or in the water
  • Glitz and Giving, the charity’s fundraising evening on 19 September
  • school, workplace and club fundraisers, each doubled by the match
  • the 36-hour finale run by volunteer “Champions” sharing the appeal online

What the money pays for

The hospice is at The Ark on Byng Road, Barnet. It cares for babies, children and young people with life-threatening and life-shortening conditions, and their families, across north and central London. Care is free to families.

Running the hospice costs more than £7 million a year, the charity says. More than 75% of its income is raised voluntarily. The appeal total covers roughly a sixth of a year’s costs.

Its impact report for 2025/26 gives a sense of the scale. In that year the hospice:

  • supported 459 seriously unwell babies, children and young people
  • provided 34,114 hours of clinical care
  • welcomed 102 new families

This year’s campaign film features three families the hospice supports. One is a seven-year-old girl treated for leukaemia since October 2024. Another is a three-year-old boy with a brain injury caused by oxygen deprivation. The third is a grandmother who has cared for two grandchildren with the rare genetic condition STXBP1 disorder.

The appeal also fell in the charity’s 20th anniversary year. It says it has supported more than 1,000 families since 2006.

What it means for you

If you gave, raised money or ran a bake sale in the last six weeks, your money was doubled. The appeal has now closed, so new gifts are no longer matched.

You can still give at any time on the charity’s donation page. Regular gifts help the hospice plan for a £7 million year. The charity also needs volunteers, including home support volunteers who visit families.
